A story of community, service, and heart.

Our first location, Garden City Bank, was chartered in 1928, though our banking origins stretch more than a hundred years to a group of Garden City citizens who wanted a bank to serve their farms, businesses, and families.

1928

Garden City Bank founded.

2005

Rowland family purchases Garden City with the goal of expanding the Bank's services and markets.

2008

Garden City branch opened in Lee's Summit to serve eastern Jackson County.

2010

Garden City Bank is officially renamed Lead Bank and embarks on a strategic growth plan to serve the entire KC metro.

2011

Started Lead Ventures with pledge to invest $1 million in promising KC start-ups.

2013

Acquired the Kansas City Crossroad location.

2015

Officially opened the Kansas City Crossroads flagship location.

2016

Starts the For Change (now called Civic Contractor Funding) program to provide underserved comminutes with funding.

2018

Lead Bank is named the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year and winner of the Mr. K award.

2018

Partnered with first fintech, Self.

Today

Constantly moving forward, we're leading by example through our work with entrepreneurship, women, and children in crisis, and the arts.
