KANSAS CITY, MO (January 2022) Lead Bank, a community bank serving Kansas City for more than 90 years, has hired Mario Urquilla as its new Community Development Officer to accelerate its work in reaching communities across Kansas City and to lead the Bank’s Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) initiatives. “Mario’s banking experience, leadership skills and community involvement make him an exceptional addition to the Lead Bank team," said Josh Rowland, CEO and Vice-Chairman of Lead Bank. "This is a critical role that executes a wide variety of initiatives and as we continue to grow, expand nationally and work with clients large and small. Mario will be instrumental in helping us better serve our communities.”
In his new role, Urquilla will drive lending, investments, develop partnerships with local community groups and support banker volunteer opportunities specifically in the CRA (Community Reinvestment Act) space. The Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), enacted in 1977, requires the Federal Reserve and other federal banking regulators to encourage financial institutions to help meet the credit needs of the communities in which they do business, including low- and moderate-income (LMI) neighborhoods.
Urquilla joins Lead Bank as a former community banker with experience in retail, commercial, small business and payment processing, as well as having created the first bilingual banking center in Kansas City, Kansas. He is a Webster University Adjunct Professor teaching master’s level finance and accounting, a 2016 Greater KC Chamber Centurion graduate, former board of directors member of the Missouri Council on Economic Education and the Raymore Chamber of Commerce, has served as a community advisory council member for the United Way of Greater KC, and is currently serving as a commissioner for the Raymore Planning and Zoning commission and on the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce board.
