Lead Bank and KCAI Host Steamroller Engraving Event

Apr 14, 2016

KANSAS CITY, MO (APRIL 2016) — Lead Bank, a locally owned financial institution dedicated to the needs of small businesses, and Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI), one of the bank’s community partners, will host a steamroller engraving event Friday, April 15, at 10 a.m.–2 p.m. in the Lead Bank parking lot. Burgers and brats will be served 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m.

“We are proud to be involved in such a cool and creative event,” said Lead Bank Vice Chairman Josh Rowland. “It’s great to be a part of this process as we share this art with our community neighbors, providing them a cultural piece for reflection and enjoyment.”

Steamroller engraving is an experience that is not often available for public viewing. The process requires a steamroller, a heavy construction vehicle normally used for leveling surfaces, to be used as the pressure point to transfer the ink from a matrix onto a fabric or paper, creating a printed design. KCAI students from Associate Professor Miguel Rivera’s printmaking department will be performing the steamroller engraving process, and the end result will be introduced as Lead Bank’s new community art piece Friday, May 6. Lead Bank will be hosting a First Fridays celebration that evening where the public is encouraged to come see the new printmaking installation.

"We're enjoying a wonderful partnership with Lead Bank who is challenging our students with creative projects through our Sponsored Studio program. It's been monumentally beneficial for the students and makes a genuine impact in the Crossroads art community," said Nerman Family President Tony Jones. Lead Bank Crossroads is located at 1801 Main St., Kansas City, Mo, 64108. The event is open to the public, but reservations can be made to rsvp@lead.bank.
